The other day, the first auction of new tea leaves took place at the Shizuoka Tea Market.

The new tea season in Shizuoka has finally begun.

I've included a photo and a YouTube link for reference. (Japanese news)

*What is the first auction of new tea leaves in Shizuoka?

It's the day when the first harvest of "new tea (Shincha)" leaves of the year gathers at the Shizuoka Tea Market, and officially begins trading.

Tea industry representatives and government officials from across the prefecture gather, making it a lively event.

It's like the "opening game" in baseball, or the "first auction" at the Tsukiji (Toyosu) market, and a traditional event that signals the arrival of spring in Shizuoka.

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Shizuoka Tea Market, these teacups were specially distributed.

At the Shizuoka Tea Market, only companies with bidding rights are allowed to bid.  We have had those bidding rights for a long time.

( Wearing a blue hat means that we are qualified to purchase tea at the Shizuoka Tea Market.)
